Quotes from Students: The Opinion on Block Lunch

Over the past three weeks our students have been adapting and getting used to block lunch. Several students were prompted with the question “What is your opinion on block lunch?”

Here are their answers:

“Block lunch has been shown to be relatively successful in terms of tutorials, but it definitely puts constraints on the amount of staff we have, two well we can monitor the behavior of the students, and safety in the event of an emergency.” -junior Jordan Dozier

“Having an hour for lunch is only helping my senioritis, so I personally don’t have a problem with it. I think it’s obnoxious that people sit in the middle of the hallway, and I actually heard Mr. Crowson say that less people sit in the cafeteria now. I think that’s because they are scared that it will be too crowded. It’s a great opportunity to rehearse for Drowsy Chaperone, opening the last week of January!” -senior Janet Hagedorn

“Block lunch personally isn’t my favorite schedule change since I’ve been at Stratford. I feel like after the first 30 minutes, I don’t really have much to do, and I’m ready to go to class at that time. But, I do think that it benefits some students here and helps catch them up with homework and other assignments.” -senior Madi Sanders

“I think block lunch is a great way for students to get an extra opportunity to go to tutorials! However, I think that some clubs and extracurriculars are taking advantage of block lunch schedule, causing a lot of students no time to even eat lunch.” -junior Emma Painter

“I think it’s a good idea for people to get extra help in academics, but it’s still a bit messy.” -junior Jake Evetts

“I think block lunch is nice for people studying, but at the same time, it’s very hectic.” -senior Sophie Rustam

“I think block lunch is a great way to get help from your teachers and take a nice break from learning.” -junior Caroline Ashley

“I wasn’t sure how it would work out on the first day, but I obviously expected it to be chaotic. Now that we’re a couple weeks into it, I think it was a great change that really opens up time for club activities and tutorials.” -junior Michael Tyler

“I like it. It’s enough time to spend time with my friends and still have enough time to study or work on any upcoming assignments.” -junior Lars Krosby

“I love block lunch. It gives us the opportunity to attend tutorials during school and gives us a chance to get all of our energy out with our friends.” -junior Sophia Robinson

“it’s actually helpful when you need help with school, but when you don’t have anything to do it can be boring. Overall, it turned out better than I thought.” -junior Sophia Bejarano

“So far, I think block lunch is awesome! It’s really great to have that full hour to finish homework and go talk to teachers. Especially when you don’t have a study hall period.” -junior Sam Banks

“I feel like block lunch is both a blessing and a curse. It’s nice to have the extra time, but since everyone wants to do things during it, it’s hard to actually sit down and eat.” -senior Izzy Flores

“I think it’s a nice way to get a lot of work done. I have a little more time to do my homework, and I also have more time for extracurriculars.” -junior Daphne Morford

“I’ve actually really enjoyed block lunch for the most part. I love how we’re able to just relax for an hour or catch up on homework. However, I feel that too many things are being scheduled at once during block lunch, and I just want to be able to focus on my studies and talk to my friends without having to worry about meetings and other stuff.” -junior Ryan McCall

“I like block lunch because it gives busy students a chance to catch up on work. Without it, school would be a lot worse.” -junior Luke Centanni

“I like block lunch because I am able to take a break and spend time on stuff that needs to get done and socialize.” -sophomore Clara Creed
